PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue crews stopped a three-acre brush fire Saturday afternoon on Westfall Drive west of Wilsonville, officials say.

According to the department’s Twitter account, the blaze began around 2:50 p.m. and was quickly updated to a two-alarm fire as it ran through “a wheat field that was recently cut.”

Lake Oswego Fire and the Aurora Fire District responded to a call for assistance as firefighters worked to control the edges of the fire and “keep it away from a nearby home and a field of horses.”

By 4 p.m., the fire was contained before it could reach a nearby home and local livestock with no evacuations necessary. Firefighters continued to clean the area.

“Today’s incident is a reminder that if you live in an area nestled among fields, forests and natural spaces, ensuring you have a 30-foot safety zone around your home where leaves, brush, and other combustibles are eliminated can help firefighters protect your home,” TVF&R said in a press release.

It is not yet clear what caused the fire.
